Space Junk
The inciting event in Constellation, which I wrote about in my last newsletter, is a macabre piece of space junk hitting the International Space Station. Well, the ISS decided to get in on the action and hit Florida with a piece of its trash.

The apparent cause of this accident was a scheduling delay changing some batteries on the station.
So NASA decided to jettison the battery pallet using the space station's robotic arm in March 2021 in order to free up real estate on the lab. Without any propulsion of their own, the batteries were adrift in orbit for three years until aerodynamic drag finally pulled the pallet back into the atmosphere on March 8, almost exactly three years later.
That's not good.
The Day of the Martians
I finished The Day of the Martians by H.E. Wilburson earlier this week. It's the first book in another sequel series to H.G. Wells War of the Worlds.
It's a very different take on a sequel from my Great War of the Worlds. series. The Day of the Martians is written in a style closer to Wells and it starts sooner after the first attack. In this book, the Martians attempt another direct attack on Earth with a much more terrifying and fanciful weapon than the ones they use in the original story. You could picture it being a sequel written by the original author where he decides to raise the stakes.
Probably the biggest difference with GWOTW is that Days has the world avoiding Martian technology after the attack. It stays rooted in Victorian sensibilities where I move the story into a world that more closely resembles the WWI era.
It's a quick read, and I'm looking forward to reading the next book in the series soon. Check it out!
Here's the blurb.
The terror of the coming of the Martians is all but a distant memory, a bad dream that has faded with time – until the shocking discovery years later, of an unopened Martian cylinder....
After gaining five awards at the 2020 Los Angeles Science Fiction Film Festival (Audio Drama category) The Martian Diaries series, continuing The War Of The Worlds, is now available as ebooks and audiobooks.
If you're a fan of the H.G. Wells alien invasion book, start this award-winning 3-part sequel today, because you won't want to miss this story!
